This article explains how to manage your sync preferences, which product fields stay in sync, and what happens when a field is locked.
Below are the main sections covered in this guide:
Managing product sync settings – Turn sync rules on or off for specific fields.
Sync rule categories – Understand what types of data can be synced.
Sync frequency – Learn how often product data updates.
Field locks on the product detail page – See why some fields can’t be edited directly.
Best practices for managing product variants.
1. Managing Product Sync Settings
You can control how your product information syncs between your Shopify or WooCommerce store and The Folklore.
How to access your sync settings
Go to Account Settings → Integrations → Shopify (gear icon).
Or visit this link directly: https://member.thefolklore.com/account/integrations.
Click the gear icon next to your integration to open your sync preferences.
2. Sync Rule Categories
Under your Shopify or WooCommerce sync settings, you’ll find toggle controls for each data category. Turning a category on means The Folklore will automatically update that information based on your connected store.
Available sync categories:
Product details sync – Updates product title, description, images, HS code, and weight.
Variant sync – Updates colour, size, SKU, and UPC.
Inventory sync – Updates your consumer-facing stock quantity.
Price sync – Updates the retail (consumer) price.
Note:
By default, inventory and price sync are enabled when you first connect your integration. You can update these preferences at any time.
3. Sync Frequency
Your entire product catalog automatically syncs every 4 hours.
Any manual product update made on Shopify or WooCommerce syncs instantly to The Folklore.
When a product is synced for the first time, all product information is imported from your connected store.
On future syncs, only the fields that match your active sync settings will update.
4. Field Locks on the Product Detail Page
Depending on your sync preferences, certain product fields will appear locked in The Folklore to prevent conflicting manual edits.
Here’s how it works:
Product details sync – Locks editing for title, description, images, HS code, and weight.
Variant sync – Locks editing for colour, size, SKU, and UPC.
Inventory sync – Locks editing for consumer quantity.
Price sync – Locks editing for retail price.
Tip:
Locked fields reflect your current sync settings. If you turn a sync category off, those fields will become editable again.
5. Best Practices for Managing Variants
To avoid sync errors—especially for products with multiple sizes, colours, or styles—create and edit all variants directly in your Shopify or WooCommerce store, not on The Folklore.
If you click the Shopify Sync or WooCommerce Sync link under a product title on The Folklore, a popup will appear with a direct link to that product in your connected store.
Use this shortcut to make quick edits at the source while maintaining consistent, accurate data across both systems.
